About / Inspiration
Over the past several years, the Pittsburgh region has experienced multiple examples of disasters that have had significant impact on both our citizens and our businesses. They included:
- Quecreek mine collapse
- 9/11 & Flight 93
- Beaver County food poisoning
- Hurricane Ivan
- Thousands of businesses with operations temporarily
or permanently interrupted - Lack of systematic business to business communications
- No capabilities register for equipment, facilities, supplies, technology
- No comprehensive volunteer/skills register
It became apparent that the region needed to harness the tremendous capabilities of its business community to prepare itself for disaster, as well as support the region’s emergency responders.
